Saves are used if a magic spell or special ability calls for it. For instance the Elemental Connection special ability "Blast" deals [SUM] damage or half on a successful save. So if a player uses this ability against a monster, the GM will roll a d20 on behalf of the monster. If they get the monsters' save value or below the monster only takes half damage.
If you have more questions on P&P and how to play or run TTRPGs, the Perils & Princesses discord is full of helpful people and I'm in there all the time answering questions and just chatting! https://discord.gg/ChtGzqUyzX
This is such a nice game. Really has been giving me life the last couple of weeks. Picked it up in print from a game shop and got the pdf now (this game deserves the support). All that is left now is to get a game going :-)
I finally got this to the table and I absolutely love it! It has a very different feel than most OSR type games, and in this case the mechanics do a lot to support the themes in play. Artwork, color palette, and layout are gorgeous.
I highly recommend clicking that purchase button if you're interested in OSR or rules light games, but are in the mood for something with a little more whimsy.
Thanks so much for this comment! Getting those simple OSR(NSR) style rules to work in a more whimsical way was precisely one of my goals with this game. Cheers to whimsy.
Just bought the book from my local game store and am stoked to play our first game tomorrow!
Quick question: I don't see anywhere on the character sheet to record your princess's personality or clothing, which seems like an oversight. Am I missing something? Or is there an alternate character sheet that includes this?
Thanks for your support! The character sheet has mostly mechanically relevant items to keep the info more streamlined. I think an alternate version with spaces for personality appearance and clothes and other role-play and character tools is a good idea!
Just purchased a dead tree copy at a local brick & mortar game store. The game book had a sticker: "Remember to ask for your digital copy" but the book contains no specific instructions or download code. This seems like a decent place to ask. 🤷♂️
It's not built for solo play yet unfortunately! It's "1-5 players and a GM" I know there's a lot of interest in solo RPGs and there's a few folks in the P&P community who have talked about writing solo rules, but there isn't any solo support at the time. It's a long-term goal of mine to make some official solo rules, but I just don't know that much about solo gaming so at the very least I need to play some of my own!
Love this! Really wished I hadn't missed the kickstarter! Rules question, please: Do Heart Dice start at one, just like gift dice? I can't seem to find that in the rulebook.

I'll be running Perils and Princesses for a group soon! I wanted to make sure, monsters don't need to roll to hit, yes? They just roll damage?
What a great TTRPG! I loved reading it, especially the example part where the princess kissed a spider to calm it down. hahaha!
Thank you so much!
I have a question about monster SAVES. I half-get the idea, but I'm not sure what it would look like in combat. I have no other TTRPG experience.

Thanks! This is very helpful. I'll have to check out the discord, too. :)
Lovely game, Outrider Creative team.

Thanks for making this game. :)

I love this game, thank you so much for game!!
I seriously appreciate it! Comments like these mean a lot. I hope you have a ton of fun.

We'll get you a code right away!
I'm a crowdfunding backer, and was wondering if I can get access on itch as well? Just a lot more convenient for me!
Hey Benji! Sure thing. I'll send you an email shortly.
I like this idea and aesthetic! I'm gonna try the quickstart. :)
So I see that it says "1-5 players". Does that mean it's solo-friendly? I'm always on the hunt for new solo games, particularly OSR/dungeon crawlers.

Also thank you! I'm glad you dig the idea and vibes. :)
Are the pre-gens available anywhere for download, please? For convention one-shots?
I thought they were up here! I'll add them in.
Should be available now!
Thanks so much!
What a lovely game, Outrider Creative team.
Thanks so much!
Loved the quickstart and I'm so glad the full game is out!! Do you have any plans for community copies?
Thank you! To be honest it's taking me a bit to figure out how to set up community copies. I had to look it up! I will definitely put out a few soon.
That's great to hear! Thanks!
Ok I set it up! Hopefully it's working.
It is! Thank you so much, my table is very much looking forward to playing!

Thank you! Yeah one heart dice per level! A lot like hit dice in other games)
Thanks!
